Hearing of suppression order application

On 22 December 2025, the matter was listed to hear any application for suppression orders.

The Commissioner of NSW Police applied for suppression orders relating to the identity of a number of victims referred to in the Statement of Facts and charging documents (known as Court Attendance Notices). Those orders were sought by the Commissioner of the NSW Police Force to protect the safety of those individuals.

The Court made suppression orders over that information. Those orders applied until 16 February 2026. The matter was also listed on that date so that any further orders relating to the suppression of the identities of those persons could be sought by the Commissioner or any other party.

Review of suppression orders

On 16 February 2026, the matter was listed to hear any further application in respect of the suppression orders made on 22 December 2025.

The Commissioner of NSW Police sought an extension of those suppression orders to allow further time to ascertain the views of the victims relating to the continuation of those suppression orders. The Court extended the suppression orders until 9 March 2026 and listed the matter on that date so that further orders relating to the suppression of the identities could be sought by the Commissioner of NSW Police or any other party.

Further review of suppression orders

On 9 March 2026, the matter was listed to hear any further application in respect of the suppression orders made on 22 December 2025, and extended on 16 February 2026.

The CDPP joined the Commissioner of NSW Police in applying to extend the suppression orders to 8 April 2026.

The Court extended the suppression orders until 8 April 2026. This means that information relating to the identity of a number of victims named in the Statement of Facts and Court Attendance Notices remains protected.

Suppression order sought by the defendant

Also on 9 March 2026, the legal representatives of Naveed Akram (the defendant) filed an application for orders to suppress and restrict publication of the names and home, work and school addresses of the defendant’s immediate family members. The ground for these orders is to protect the safety of a person. Orders were made on an interim basis which apply until 17 March 2026. The hearing of the application for these orders will take place on 17 March 2026.

Victims of Crime Policy https://victimsandwitnesses.cdpp.gov.au/portal/victims-crime-policy The CDPP’s Victims of Crime Policy sets out the information to be provided to, and the consultation that must take place with, victims of crime during the prosecution process.
